5 Ways to Elevate Your Brand Photography

Updated: Feb 19, 2021

--------

I’m a believer in the power of brand photography. Not only does it give your audience views into your business and offerings, but a unique style helps differentiate you from competitors.

In a highly visual digital landscape, and especially if you don’t have a physical storefront, investing in stunning visuals is a must. High quality visuals evoke credibility, reputability, and trust.

To help you elevate your online presence, here are a few insider tips for developing a strong visual identity around your photography:

1.) Develop a shot list of images you’ll need.

First, consider where your photos will be used. How will your photos fit into your website and other marketing materials? Do you need mostly vertical or horizontal images?

2.) Save inspirational images and visuals that model your brand.

It's important to share your vision with your photographer. Browse through competitor materials, industry publications, stock photos, and magazines. The goal is to create a collection of images your photographer can use to achieve your desired aesthetic. Pay attention to the style of images you and prospective customers will resonate best with.

3.) Before selecting a photographer, examine their portfolio of work.

Most photographers have a portfolio on their site. Since they can specialize in a variety of fields (lifestyle, product, brand, commercial, etc.), it’s important to understand their expertise and ensure they get your vision. I interviewed several photographers before making a selection.

4.) Determine the best location. Will your shoot be onsite? Inside or outside?

Consider the emotions you want your clients to experience when they see your images. Location plays a huge impact on your overall brand positioning in a customers’ mind. If you’re not sure, ask your photographer for recommendations.

5.) Incorporate brand elements into your shoot.

For a cohesive look, be intentional with color. Selecting props and clothing that match your brand palette helps create consistency between your images and other marketing materials.

Whether you’re establishing a personal brand or refreshing your product images, thoughtful preparation sets you up for a successful shoot. For additional resources and tips for building your business, get in touch!
